“Prepare the Way of the Lord…” Luke 3: 4
It is our mission and work to labor for God and to prepare the way of the Lord. We each are called, in our own uniqueness, to make a way for God to enter into our lives and hearts. In today’s second reading, St. Paul assures us, as he did for the Philippians, “I pray always with joy in my every prayer for you because of your partnership for the Gospel, that the one who began good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Paul speaks of partnership, meaning that we must all work together to build God’s kingdom. The path we are called to prepare is the Gospel message in our daily lives. It is the ability to recognize Jesus in our neighbor that allows us to work in partnership for the Lord.
What are we about as a people of God? How do we prepare the way of the Lord on a daily basis—in the good and bad times of our lives? John the Baptist reminds us that it is our mission and work to labor for God and we must labor to prepare the way of the Lord. St. Paul assures us that “the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Jesus.” God gifted us with joy, mercy, justice, laughter, tears, rejoicing—all good gifts—to use as tools to make a way for the Lord to enter into our lives and hearts. May you have the courage to use those tools in your daily work and may you have eyes to see Jesus in your neighbor—the one who trusts in you to partner within living well the Gospel message here on earth!
